    <Content>&lt;p&gt;Students will hear about a variety of cases of eye disorders with a genetic component. These will be a mixture of common and rare disorders.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The majority of the teaching will be online involving asynchronous eLearning and discussion boards and synchronous (live lectures). &amp;nbsp;Students will come to Manchester for one day to witness an MDT discussion of a series of clinical cases. &amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The following investigation of similar cases will form the unit assessment.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;A variety of pre-reading content will be provided to support students with different backgrounds. &amp;nbsp;We expect a mixture of ophthalmologists who may lack knowledge of genetics alongside students not from ophthalmology who have recently studied genetics. &amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This unit is available as a standalone CPD unit. &amp;nbsp;However, for students undertaking a PGcert, PGdip or MSc in Genomic Medicine, we would expect them to undertake the unit “Fundamentals of Human Genetics (BIOL67561)” before taking this unit.&amp;nbsp;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</Content>

    <Content>&lt;p&gt;The unit aims to provide students with specialist knowledge of the role of genomics in the study and treatment of ophthalmic disorders. Students will study the biology, relevant disease examples, and the role of genomics in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The unit will consider not only the index patient but also the implications for the wider family. This unit will be appropriate for a range of healthcare professionals as well as interested scientists.&lt;br&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</Content>

    <Content>&lt;p&gt;Pre-reading:-&lt;br&gt;eLearning: Pre-recorded lectures in two strands:-&lt;br&gt;- Background genetics for students who have not recently taken “Fundamentals of human genetics (BIOL67561) or equivalent.&lt;br&gt;- Background ophthalmology for students not from this background.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br&gt;Live lectures:-&lt;br&gt;Case based structure (e.g. exemplar patients) to cover ILOs listed above.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Live Multidisiplinary Team (MDT) meeting. Students provided with basic case background of cases. &amp;nbsp;Professions (the MDT) discuss cases. &amp;nbsp;Students ask follow-up questions.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Discussion board based formative co-creation: Students will work in groups to produce case summaries following the MDT. &amp;nbsp;Moderated by academic staff based on criteria to be assesssed in unit summative assessment [Practice]&lt;br&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</Content>
