To facilitate students' learning about the job market and how to build for a successful career. At the end of this module students will have: Had the opportunity to interact with real employers and graduate recruiters and to find out what they want from candidates for jobs. Practised and learnt about some of the techniques necessary to succeed in the job selection process, e.g. written applications, interviews, assessment centres. Examined and developed key skills which will be useful in both finding work and managing their own career, e.g. project management, teamwork and presentations. Enhanced their CVs. Analysed their own personal strengths and development areas within teamworking. Lectures Workshops Presentations Extensive use of employers in the design and delivery of some of the sessions In addition to 12x 2 hour interactive lectures you will also spend approximately 2 hours per week undertaking a real life group project with an external organisation. The module gives the opportunity to gain real teamworking and project management experience working on a live project with a local business or community organisation. The module effectively allows students to get work experience as part of their curriculum. Examples of recent projects students have undertaken include: running a fundraising event for a charity; conducting market research for a radio station; devising a new advertising campaign for a graduate recruiter; creating a marketing strategy and materials for a charity and a survey of students' views of corporate social responsibility. The interviewer was really interested in what I had done as part of the project'. 0 Other 100% Module is assessed via 100% course work, viz: CV and Covering Letter: 20% (individual mark) Group Presentation: 20% (group mark) Individual Report 25% (individual mark) Business Report 35% (group mark) The mark each individual gets for the business report is affected by peer assessment. As it is cross-faculty you do need to confirm your eligibility to do the course with your School. It is mainly targeted at students in the following schools: * Combined Studies * Arts, Histories and Cultures * Language, Linguistics and Cultures * Geography * Social Sciences (not BA Econ) * Law Students should NOT register directly with academic schools but instead complete an online registration form at http://www.studentnet.manchester.ac.uk/careers/improveyourjobprospects/ careermanagementskills/humanities Places are limited to 40 places per semester and will be allocated on a first come first served basis!
