Practice in the use of AutoCAD and other relevant software packages in preparation of general arrangement drawings and detail drawings.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Development of an understanding of civil engineering construction methods, health and safety hazards and the control of risk.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Development of practical skills in site evaluation, data collection, interpretation and analysis, as required for a detailed civil engineering design in an environmentally sensitive area.&lt;/p&gt;</Content>

    <Content>&lt;p&gt;The project-based unit is supported by a 2 hrs lecture/tutorial per week for 11 weeks, including 2 hr guest lecture from United Utilities, 3 hr tutorial sessions (group meetings with &amp;lsquo;client&amp;rsquo;) and 1 hr computer-based tutorial sessions. The unit contents comprise introduction to the project brief, introduction of AutoCAD and EDINA, design details, design practice.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Students are required to design a vehicular access connecting two locations (CW1) and to provide a conceptual design of a bridge (CW2). The unit is 100% coursework. To facilitate students, the following topics will be covered&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ol&gt;	&lt;li&gt;		Introduction: an overview of the project brief, unit format, progress and submissions&lt;/li&gt;	&lt;li&gt;		Tutorial session on AutoCAD and EDINA digital mapping resources&lt;/li&gt;	&lt;li&gt;		Introduction to general design process&lt;/li&gt;	&lt;li&gt;		Conceptual design of a bridge with the consideration of site details&lt;/li&gt;	&lt;li&gt;		Introduction to machinery and construction method statement&lt;/li&gt;	&lt;li&gt;		Risk assessment and responses strategies&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;</Content>
