<p>The unit aims to equip students with the skills and tools necessary to design and critically evaluate interactive software systems that address human cognition, user needs, and socio-technical considerations. By balancing theoretical foundations, standard practices, and research methodologies, the unit prepares students to develop the expertise needed to conduct research projects in both industry and academia.</p>

<p><strong>ILO 1:</strong> Identify and synthesise the HCI challenges of application domains and interaction technologies.</p><p><strong>ILO 2: </strong>Design experiments and studies involving human-computer interactions to extract requirements and evaluate interactive systems.</p><p><strong>ILO 3: </strong>Apply knowledge of (qualitative and quantitative) research methods in HCI, including those used in industry-standard usability-testing, to design and judge usable interactive systems.</p><p><strong>ILO 4: </strong>Describe the key capabilities and limitations in human cognitive performance and relate this to the design of HCI systems.</p><p><strong>ILO 5: </strong>Compare the strengths and weaknesses of methods for specific populations, stages of the user-centred design method, resources available and risks to validity.</p><p><strong>ILO 6: </strong>Find, critically analyse, and organise information from a variety of sources, to aid in design, decision making or communication.</p>
