EART27102 Analysing Environmental Field Data 10 Semester 2 Undergraduate Level 5 Neil Mitchell Unit coordinator 1 FHEQ level (Framework for Higher Education Qualifications) ' Middle part of Bachelors ' European Credit Transfer & Accumulation System Rating : 5.0 During a 5-day course, small groups of students will work with a tutor to develop a research project by identifying a tractable research question and designing field measurements or sampling that will address that question. This will involve one day of fieldwork and a further day of access to the analytical facilities of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. Projects are possible across a broad range of environmental sciences and will demonstrate the requirements of research, a common process for carrying out research, and teach analytical skills needed. All projects will teach students how to communicate by construction of logical written argument and presentation to peers. Subsequently, they will receive feedback from their tutor. Feedback will then be used by students to guide their preparation of an individual written report that forms the summative assessment for the module (submitted ~2 weeks after the feedback session).  · During a 5-day course students will work in small groups (typically 6-8) with a staff tutor;· Small groups of students will work with a tutor to design a project including sampling strategy.
