During a 5-day course, small groups of students will work with a tutor to develop a research project by identifying a tractable research question and designing field measurements or sampling that will address that question. This will involve one day of fieldwork and a further day of access to the analytical facilities of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. Projects are possible across a broad range of environmental sciences and will demonstrate the requirements of research, a common process for carrying out research, and teach analytical skills needed. All projects will teach students how to communicate by construction of logical written argument and presentation to peers.
