EDUC31631 Leisure and Development 20 Semester 1 Undergraduate Level 6 Vitaly Kazakov Unit coordinator 1 FHEQ level (Framework for Higher Education Qualifications) ' Last part of a Bachelors ' European Credit Transfer & Accumulation System Rating : 10.0 This unit builds upon units in year 1 EDUC10212 Sociology of Leisure and year 2 EDUC21502 International Management, but it can also be taken as the first Leisure Management module for any student in the Humanities Faculty. The unit examines the relationship between leisure and development, bringing insights from across different industries and geographical contexts to explore the challenges and opportunities for civic, government, and private stakeholders in planning for a more sustainable future. The unit aims to:1. Explore foundational development concepts and issues, with a focus on economic, socio-cultural, heritage, community, and the environment.2. Examine how and where development concepts and issues feature across the leisure industries, including events, tourism, sport, hospitality, and recreational examples.3. Understand the local, national, regional, and international stakeholder dimensions between leisure and development.4. Produce an industry-style document using secondary qualitative and quantitative materials, this will analyse and evaluate the development challenges and opportunities for a leisure-related case study. Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of development issues in the leisure industries in the areas covered by the syllabus.Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the opportunities and challenges faced by different stakeholders across the leisure industries in relation to development Develop an understanding of how to use development concepts and issues to frame opportunities and challengesRecognise how and where development concepts and issues feature across the leisure industries covered on the syllabus Identify and gather secondary quantitative and qualitative materials, and use these to assess challenges and opportunitiesCollate, analyse, and present a range of materials in one document aimed at an industry audience Ability to gather secondary dataAbility to present information to an industry audienceAbility to discuss and reflect on development issues outside of your own personal experiences and demographics Students will be taught in a blended learning manner, with online educational materials provided before the on-campus lecture/seminar sessions.
