    <Content>&lt;p&gt;This unit will provide training to postgraduate students on research methods, product or service development and market research. The unit will include video lectures, team work, private study, individual project reports and a final presentation.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Student overview&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You will work in teams to research and plan an innovative design for a product, system, component or process. As part of this you will need to consider the wider ethical, regulatory and sustainability contexts in which engineering operates. From there you will build a business case, as a pitch to a senior manager, board of directors, or external investor &amp;ndash; this will require you to detail the scope and key risks of the project, as well as the value proposition (i.e. the cost &amp;amp; benefit).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Each of you will individually write up the business case as a short executive summary then justify your proposal through an oral presentation (delivered via video conference).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Throughout the unit you are encouraged to make reasoned business decisions based on evidence, and to examine the effectiveness of your team&amp;rsquo;s working practices. These are not directly assessed but will obviously have a large impact on the quality of your submitted work.&lt;/p&gt;</Content>

Prepare students for research project work through practice of:&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;a) Independent research/self-learning (literature review, ideation, creative problem solving)&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;b) Project planning (scope, resource, timelines, risk)&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;c) Writing reports&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;2. Encourage exploration of professional responsibility in the wider context in which engineering operates (ethical, environmental, regulatory, managerial, and social contexts)&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;3.
