This course offers students a broad overview of some of the various avenues, theories and ideas which help us understand and analyse humanitarianism and post conflict response. Each lecture endeavours to present the diversity of humanitarianism and conflict response in both its theory and practice by examining it through a discipline. They will develop critical competence in understanding the intricate workings of humanitarian and post-conflict programming from multiple disciplinary perspectives. Through their studies, students will deepen their understanding and awareness of the challenges inherent in the practice of humanitarianism and post-conflict response. Additionally, they will actively contribute to an informed and balanced dialogue on these issues and debates by participating in and contributing to the course blog. Enhance project management skills Syllabus (indicative curriculum content):Introduction to Humanitarianism and Conflict Response   Historical Analysis: Understanding the Roots of Humanitarianism and Conflict Response  International Relations  Medicine & Public Health   Anthropology: Ethnographies of Aid and Development   International Development: The Development-Security Nexus  Peace & Conflict Studies   International Law: Laws of War and Human Rights  Philosophy: Ethics  Conclusion & Synthesis   This module will be delivered through an asynchronous distance learning methodology within the University Canvas system. It will consist of presented written and pre-recorded video material each week with associated core reading provided through the library reading list system and access to supplementary reference material.Students will engage in formative asynchronous discussion board conversation with peers and the course leadership on a weekly basis. A core trigger question for discussion is presented and ideas and concepts developed from this over the week being taught and the following week before being closed to further submission but remaining available for reference.
