European states expanded their global frontiers, discovered new worlds, experienced revolutions in politics, society and religion, and devised revolutionary new forms of knowledge and communication with the advent of the printing press and the scientific revolution. The course offers an introduction to all of these themes and it provides a foundation for students to specialize in aspects of early modern history at levels 2 and 3. <ol> <li> Culture, Society and the Physical Environment</li> <li> Religion and Reformation</li> <li> Politics and the People</li> <li> Transforming Knowledge</li> </ol> <ul> <li> Students will be introduced to the significance of key events and developments in the early modern world including European voyages of discovery, encounters with new peoples and cultures, religious reformations, political transformations, and intellectual change.</li> <li> The course aims to develop students’ understanding of the nature and consequences of these developments in a wide-ranging and comparative context.
