    <Content>&lt;div&gt;	&lt;p&gt;The unit introduces students to both the design and production principles of constructed textile production processes weaving and knitting.&amp;nbsp; During the initial lecture series, the introduction to design considerations, such as fibre/yarns, weights, aesthetics, colour and palette will be presented within the context of the fashion retail and designer maker environment for fashion items, from garments to accessories.&amp;nbsp; To support this background information from the constructed textile design development, design decisions, design collections for varying fashion market levels technical information on the construction of woven and knitted fabrics will be delivered to support the students understanding.&amp;nbsp; The technical content delivery will allow the student to appreciate weave and knit technologies, weave and knit elementary and derivative structures and considerations to choosing weave and knit structures to the technology employed in the production of constructed textiles (woven and knitted).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;To allow the student to develop a greater appreciation and understanding of the information delivered within the lectures, there will be a series of seven seminars.&amp;nbsp; The seminars will provide an opportunity to discuss and investigate design considerations, woven and knitted textile production and support the coursework element of the unit.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This handbook should be read in conjunction with the School of Materials Undergraduate Programmes Handbook that can be found on the School Intranet.     <Content>&lt;div&gt;	&lt;p&gt;The primary aim of this unit is to provide knowledge of the construction of woven and knitted textile structures and fabrics used in the fashion retail industry and their application to allow the student to: Develop an understanding of the design considerations of constructed textiles, woven and knitted, for fashion applications; Develop an understanding of the appropriateness of market level for varying constructed textiles, woven and knitted, for fashion applications; Develop an appreciation of the design constraints, design process and design considerations for constructed textiles, woven and knitted; Understand constructed textile (woven and knitted) classification and their notations; Develop a basic understanding of constructed textiles, woven and knitted, performance characteristics; Develop an appreciation of aesthetics, yarn/material choices of constructed textiles and woven structure and&amp;nbsp; knitted structure combinations within fashion applications; Develop a basic understanding of fabric analysis methods.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; The unit counts for 15 credits and comprises a series of lectures and seminars, supplemented through independent study and guided reading.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</Content>
