The management theme explores in detail the generic activities of all management endeavours, namely planning, organising, leading and controlling; there is a particular emphasis on contemporary management practice to address organisational structures, complex environmental conditions, new technological developments and the increasingly diverse workforces typical of the apparel pipeline. The fashion business theme provides a context for management issues in the sector by looking at the size and structure of the sector, the types of organisations as well as global trade and commercial issues in fashion business.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</Content>

    <Content>&lt;p&gt;Video-based lectures will be used to introduce and review concepts, principles and techniques.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Live workshop sessions and seminars will include discussions and quizzes relating to the material covered in the lectures and provide the opportunity for you to develop competence in the application of management principles to a range of examples drawn from the apparel pipeline.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;All elements of the course are supplemented with directed reading and formative “homework” assignments intended to allow ownership of the concepts introduced.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;For the in-course assessment, you will examine an area of the apparel pipeline from a management perspective; you will work in a small group to interview a manager in a fashion business and provide evidence of understanding and interpretation of key management concepts in the context of your chosen area. &amp;nbsp;The choice of areas and concepts will be facilitated by the unit tutors and guidance will be given on the scope of material to be covered. &amp;nbsp;Formative feedback will be given on your project plans and drafts.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The unit is supported through the use of the Blackboard learning environment which will include formative assessment tasks and an opportunity to contribute to discussion boards.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</Content>
