MATS64231 Imaging, Characterisation and Key Manufacturing Techniques 15 Semester 1 Postgraduate Taught Level 6 Alison Harvey Unit coordinator 1 FHEQ level (Framework for Higher Education Qualifications) ' Masters/Integrated Masters P4 ' European Credit Transfer & Accumulation System Rating : 7.5 The unit introduces key imaging, characterisation and manufacturing techniques used in biomaterials research and directly links the use of these to a (hypothetical) research project based on a clinical challenge. The unit introduces key imaging, characterisation and manufacturing techniques used in biomaterials research and directly links the use of these to a (hypothetical) research project based on a clinical challenge. Students will hear about unmet clinical needs from visiting clinicians and observe clinical procedures by online videos. For coursework parts (b) and (c) students will be assigned a clinical challenge in groups based on these talks (more information below). Through a series of pre-recorded podcasts, online videos and online seminars students will build a picture of the methods they may use to manufacture, image and characterise a biomaterial. Students will demonstrate their understanding of the equipment and techniques by devising, in groups, a plan to solve the clinical challenge. In addition to this students will individually create a handbook of techniques that will be a useful guide throughout their PhD (coursework part (a)).Content on this unit:<ul><li>Introduction outlining the structure of the unit and plan for remote learning.</li><li>Talks from clinicians on the unmet clinical needs they face in their work and outlining a clinical challenge for the coursework component of the unit.
