Students will be introduced to health and safety considerations of laboratory work and basic laboratory techniques, including enzymatic assays, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Patient samples will be analysed in a number of practical workshops, with students being asked to provide clinical interpretation of the results. Students will also develop an understanding of laboratory calculations and data analysis.
