It aims to provide the trainee with the knowledge that underpins specialist training in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics and provide the trainee with the tools to undertake learning in the workplace.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin-left:5.7pt;"&gt;The unit is divided up into three components each of a notional 10 credits to match the requirements of the STP curriculum, with each component covering a distinct element: Hypersensitivity &amp;amp; Allergy, Haematological Malignancy, and Haemopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation.&lt;/p&gt;</Content>

    <Content>&lt;p style="margin-left:5.7pt;"&gt;The aims of this unit are to provide students with a good understanding of the mechanisms, pathology and clinical investigation of the areas covered by the three distinct components.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin-left:5.7pt;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Hypersensitivity &amp;amp; Allergy&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin-left:5.7pt;"&gt;This component will provide the student with knowledge and understanding of the mechanisms of hypersensitivity and allergy. They will understand the clinical presentation and investigation of a range of associated conditions. They will become familiar with methods and strategies to investigate hypersensitivity and allergy and gain experience of the interpretation of patient results in a variety of clinical settings.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin-left:5.7pt;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Haematological Malignancy&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin-left:5.7pt;"&gt;This component equips students with knowledge and understanding of the pathophysiology, clinical presentation and management of patients with haematological malignancies and the interpretation of appropriate diagnostic investigations. Furthermore, it will provide students with knowledge of the classification of haematological malignancies and the importance of an integrated diagnostic approach.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin-left:5.7pt;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Haemopoetic Stem Cell Transplantation&amp;nbsp;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="margin-left:5.7pt;"&gt;This component will provide the student with a knowledge and understanding of stem cell donation, testing, harvesting and monitoring. They will understand a range of clinical conditions associated with stem cell transplantation requirements. They will understand the role of HLA typing in the matching of donors and suitable recipients and become familiar with methods and strategies to investigate HSCT outcomes &amp;amp; monitoring, obtained through the interpretation of patient results using a variety of clinical scenarios.&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</Content>
