<MarketingOverview Applicant="Y" Label="Marketing Course unit overview" Student="">

Organisations of any type can only advance their capabilities if human resource planning and development strategies encompass learning at individual, group and institutional levels. This Unit offers a unique conceptual and learner centred approach for students to understand how this challenge can be met.

 </MarketingOverview>
 <UnitOverview Applicant="" Label="Course unit overview" Student="Y">

Drawing on contemporary research and literature the Unit critically explores how planning for people development in organisations can enable individuals and groups to exercise more autonomous control of their own skills advancement and performance in meeting organisation aims. Emphasis is placed on strategies that enhance negotiated personal development plans, team contributions, work process improvements and HR partner interventions for achieving successful change. The approaches and values of human resource development are critically appraised in the context of arguments which stress that building a learning culture is essential when an organisation promotes its national or global contributions. The values are underpinned by the idea that learning is a premier skill which organisations can foster amongst employees as a lifetime experience through dialogue, encouraged reflection and the availability of coaching and appropriate resources. Such learning is embedded in planned activities that engage individuals and groups in systemic as well as hierarchic led processes to meet performance and career needs. While there is a strong emphasis on reported research through lecture input in the Unit, a significant portion of time in sessions is devoted to a practical exploration of the major themes.
