NURS60000 60 Variable teaching patterns Postgraduate Taught Level 7 Hilary Mairs Unit coordinator 1 FHEQ level (Framework for Higher Education Qualifications) ' Masters/Integrated Masters P4 ' European Credit Transfer & Accumulation System Rating : 30.0 <div> The Dissertation is an extended piece of written work carried out by individual students following successful completion of required course work.&nbsp;</div> <p>At the beginning of your dissertation studies you will be asked to identify the dissertation option and topic area that you intend to investigate and you will be allocated a supervisor based on your choice.</p> <ul> <li> Allow students to pursue theoretical aspects of a topic of personal and professional interest.</li> <li> Provide students with an opportunity to consolidate and demonstrate research skills and knowledge developed in both course work and the research project.</li></ul> <ul> <li> Consolidate, synthesise and critically apply the in-depth knowledge and understanding of relevant policy, literature and research acquired through the taught components of the programme to the formulation of an extended dissertation relevant to a specific aspect of mental health practice, policy, research or service development</li></ul> <ul> <li> Engage in a systematic exploration of the literature, policy and research related to a specific area of mental health so as to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the relationship between theory and practice</li> <li> Formulate an original proposal for change, educational learning package or research proposal so as to challenge the boundaries of current thinking and demonstrate a sophisticated level of knowledge and understanding of a specific area of mental health practice</li></ul> <ul> <li> Construct a cogent and workable dissertation in order to select and critically examine a specific dimension of mental health care relevant to their own practice.</li></ul> <ul> <li> Communicate effectively (verbal, non-verbal, written) in a variety of settings with a range of individuals.</li> <li> Effectively utilise information technology/health informatics</li> <li> Demonstrate research and enquiry skills by accessing and analysing literature in order to inform and develop practice</li> <li> Work co-operatively and effectively with others as a member of a team</li> <li> Reflect on their own academic and clinical performance and utilise strategies to improve these.</li> <li> Use logical and systematic approaches to problem-solving and decision-making</li></ul> <div> The teaching and learning for this unit takes place over two semesters and will continue into the summer term &ndash; 51 weeks. Initially students will attend a face-to-face session which will introduce them to the unit. Each student will be allocated a dissertation supervisor from the beginning of the programme</div><div> and for funded places a clinical mentor who will work with them initially to refine their topic area, design and methods for their project then oversee the execution of the project and the completion of the written dissertation Students will be required to engage with a range of on-line resources specifically designed to help them in the planning, refinement and execution of their study. Key milestones for achievement will be set out very clearly and students will be required to submit formatively assessed components of their developing project and present their developing ideas to academic/practice staff and peers through on-line discussion and face-face workshops (during the second campus based study school).</div> 2 Written assignment (inc essay) 100% <p>Students will normally have the opportunity to receive feedback on formative work submitted prior to the summative assessment. Other feedback opportunities will also be available in class and online discussion boards. Online feedback is provided in Grademark. Provisional feedback based on internal marking will be made available prior to the Exam Board on the basis that these marks are yet to be ratified at the Exam Board and therefore may be subject to change.
