This course unit Concepts on Ophthalmic Nursing complements the Nature of Ophthalmic Nursing. Both units are stand-alone but in completing  both course units students will to obtain a broader understanding of ophthalmic care. <div>Eye health education and eye health promotion including the prevention of falls and ophthalmic pain management.Ophthalmic conditions such as glaucoma, retina, cataract and emergency eye care.Ophthalmic nursing care in a range of settings such as day case, theatre, eye emergency, outpatients and primary careOcular manifestations of systemic disease in the adult and childOphthalmic conditions affecting people with dementia, learning disability and mental health. Quality issues in ophthalmic care.Advances in ophthalmic nursing practice.Ophthalmic related guidelines, NHS policy and UK ophthalmic healthcare policy.</div> <div>The aim of the unit is for students to attain a conceptual understanding of ophthalmic nursing and ophthalmic patient centred care</div> <ul> <li>Demonstrate a systematic knowledge of the bio psychosocial factors influencing ophthalmic nursing care and eye health promotion in adults and children.</li> <li>Establish a critical analysis of the clinical manifestations and abnormal physiology underlying ophthalmic conditions</li> <li>Use advanced knowledge and understanding of strategies to prevent/treat and/or manage patients with altered ophthalmic pathology in a range of care settings</li> <li>Demonstrate a critical understanding of ophthalmic nursing in the context of ophthalmic multidisciplinary care</li> <li>Establish a systematic critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of evidence, guidelines and UK healthcare policy used to prevent, treat and/or manage patients with altered ophthalmic pathology</li> <li>Demonstrate a systematic and critical understanding of advances in ophthalmic nursing practice</li></ul> <ul> <li>Demonstrate a systematic, critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis    of the evidence base underpinning ophthalmic care</li> <li>Demonstrate autonomous learning to advance own knowledge and understanding in ophthalmic nursing</li></ul> <div><ul> <li style="margin-bottom: 11px;">Systematically communicate advanced evidence-based knowledge and understanding of ophthalmic patient care to a range of audiences including patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team.</li> <li style="margin-bottom: 11px;">Critically analyse and synthesise the evidence base underpinning the ophthalmic nursing care and management of people with ophthalmic conditions.</li> <li style="margin-bottom: 11px;">Systematically reflect on action to inform learning and to enhance ophthalmic patient care</li></ul></div> 0 Other 100%  The assessment will equate to 3, 500 words of student effort.Students will be asked to devise an e-poster relevant to one or more of the knowledge and understanding unit learning outcomes. Students will be encouraged to liaise with their own workplace to print and display and share their learning with colleagues and /or to submit to a conference. Further detailed criteria for success and marking criteria will be provided in the unit handbook on Canvas. Formative submissions and individual and group tutorials will offer academic support.   Students will normally have the opportunity to receive feedback on formative work submitted prior to the summative assessment. Other feedback opportunities will also be available in class and online discussion boards. Online feedback is provided in Grademark. Provisional feedback based on internal marking will be made available prior to the Exam Board on the basis that these marks are yet to be ratified at the Exam Board and therefore may be subject to change.
