NURS9172C 20 Semester 2 Undergraduate Level 6 Laura McNab Unit coordinator Nursing & Midwifery 1 FHEQ level (Framework for Higher Education Qualifications) ' Masters/Integrated Masters P4 ' European Credit Transfer & Accumulation System Rating : 10.0 <p>The course unit is designed to enable students to develop their knowledge and skills in relation to administering and caring for individuals receiving SACT. The structure of the module will enhance person centred care, improving practice outcomes and aiding service delivery in the clinical environment.</p><p>This course will supplement, yet not replace, local assessments for SACT training and will enhance this learning via both theoretical tutorials for the first six weeks, and then week seven is practical classes and workshops at The Christie to compliment the course objectives. The course content follows 4 themes which follow the patient pathway for delivery of SACT: Understanding the influences and rationale for the routes of SACT, Safety procedures and pre-treatment checks, Handling principles, SACT toxicities and the art of communication for SACT therapies.</p> <p>Develop students' critical understanding on safe delivery principles of SACT, demonstrating an advanced knowledge of the complex needs of cancer patients, and critically identify implications for care. Critically appraise the legal, ethical and professional issues involved with administering SACT, relating evidence to local and national policy, and have an awareness of human factor implications in health care services. Critically evaluate practices required of the multidisciplinary team to holistically support the safe administration of SACT, assessing current service provisions to enhance patient care. Systematically evaluate the theories and concepts underpinning the information patients receive regarding SACT to support them, their relatives and the service.&nbsp;</p> <p>Systematically reflects on safe delivery principles of SACT, demonstrating an advanced knowledge of the complex needs of cancer patients, and critically identify implications for care. Demonstrate knowledge of legal, ethical and professional issues involved with administering SACT, relating evidence to local and national policy. Critically review practices required of the multidisciplinary team to holistically support the safe administration of SACT, assessing current service provisions to enhance patient care.</p><p>Provide understanding of theories and concepts underpinning information patients receive regarding SACT to support them, their relatives and the service.</p> <p>Critically discuss peer reviewed literature to support safe delivery of treatments. Systematically reflect on administration practices for SACT. Demonstrate an awareness of typical issues found in health care which could affect safe delivery of SACT in the work place. Provide rationale of educational training tools related to safe principles of SACT.&nbsp;</p> <p>Demonstrate the ability for safe administration of SACT based on current evidence and best practice guidelines. When considering treatment intentions and associated toxicities/ emergencies, exhibit skills required for the prevention, recognition and management of such. Recognize when to withhold/ stop administration of SACT and escalate concerns about fitness to treat. Display safe handling of SACT, including the prevention and management of exposure and spillage. Communicate effectively to patients and relatives receiving new information.</p> <p>Evaluate your own role in development practice and service delivery. Participate in collaborative learning and peer support to meet learning needs. Promote independent learning through evaluating the evidence that supports practice. Systematically assess a range of evidence to inform clinical decision-making and professional practice to improve patient care.&nbsp;</p> <p>Synchronous and asynchronous activity.
