    <Content>&lt;p&gt;The unit follows from the S3 module “Introduction to Quantum Mechanics”. It introduces fundamental aspects of the theory such as angular momenta and their addition, exchange symmetry in systems of identical particles, as well as time-dependent perturbation theory. These ideas are applied to the description of various systems, such as the hydrogen atom, multi-electron atoms, H2+ and the hydrogen molecule, simple models of solids, and lasers.&lt;/p&gt;</Content>

    <Content>&lt;p&gt;ILO 1 Work with angular momentum operators and their eigenvalues to understand basic properties of quantum systems, including atomic fine-structure and first-order shifts in energy levels produced by external fields.&lt;br/&gt;ILO 2 Use quantum mechanics to solve problems with central and other potentials, such as those related to atoms, molecules, and simple models of solids.&lt;br/&gt;ILO 3 Understand the basics of time-dependent perturbation theory and its applications, for example to radiative transitions, selection rules, and the principles of lasing.&lt;/p&gt;</Content>
