<p>In each seminar students will be introduced to topics and study skills and work in small groups to complete tasks developed around selected cognitive neuroscience and psychology topics. These tasks are intended to develop academic skills, such as essay writing, evaluating evidence, searching research literature and structuring arguments. </p>

<p>This course will support students in making the transition to university study by developing professional academic skills relevant to degree level Psychology. It will also introduce them to relevant topics in Cognitive Neuroscience and Psychology. </p>
<ul><li>Understand importance of contemporary topics such as responsible use of AI and Open Research </li></ul>
<ul><li>Summarise and critically review published research </li><li>Use research evidence to support a clear and coherent line of reasoning </li></ul>
<ul><li>Experience participating in psychology research </li></ul>
<ul><li>Reflect on own strengths and weaknesses in study skills</li><li>Present information, ideas and arguments in written form with due regard to the target audience and discipline conventions</li><li>Evaluate and appraise sources of evidence</li><li>Work in a group to solve problems </li></ul>
<p>This course runs in Semesters 1 and 2. Students will attend four seminars in each semester. </p><p>E-learning provision: Seminar content and supplementary resources, and a monitored discussion board will be provided </p>

<p>Students will be required to carry out tasks ahead of seminars which will form the basis for discussion within the seminars. There will be opportunities to reflect on written feedback received on coursework submitted for other course units in order to improve and reflect on report and essay writing skills and identify areas for improvement. </p>

<p>Students will be directed to relevant online resources and journal articles related to each seminar.</p><p>Relevant resources to support study skills and target blogs and journal articles will be provided before or after seminar sessions. </p>
