SOWK90000 Return to Social Work 0 Variable teaching patterns Non Standard Career Level 6 Patricia Cartney Unit coordinator 1 FHEQ level (Framework for Higher Education Qualifications) ' Undefined ' European Credit Transfer & Accumulation System Rating : 0.0 The programme will be open to previously registered Social Workers who are returning to practice after a break of 2 – 5 years and seeking re-registration with Social Work England. When Social Workers are out of practice for more than 2 years their registration lapses and they need to demonstrate that they have undertaken an equivalent of 30 days learning to prepare for their return in order to re-register. This course will offer Social Workers the opportunity to re-register with Social Work England. Social Work England do not require courses to be credit rated or for candidates to be assessed. The requirement is that 30 days of updating on learning has taken place. This course structure involved 4 days face to face teaching, then a 10 day supervised placement in practice followed by an additional day of face to face teaching. <ul><li style="margin-left:18pt;">Changes in contemporary social work practice and reflecting on how we learn about practice</li><li style="margin-left:18pt;">Social Work England regulatory requirements around Professional Standards</li><li style="margin-left:18pt;">Updating on current safeguarding practice in Children, and Family, and Adults social work</li><li style="margin-left:18pt;">Enhancing legal literacy – updating on key legislative changes in all practice fields</li><li style="margin-left:18pt;">Accessing knowledge and encouraging evidence informed approaches to interventions</li><li style="margin-left:18pt;">10 day supervised placement in a Local Authority statutory team to update practice in situ</li><li style="margin-left:18pt;">Enhancing future employability with local authority employers</li><li style="margin-left:18pt;">Providing guidance on 15 days private study, if required</li></ul> <ul><li>Provide a high quality learning experience for candidates seeking to re-register as a social worker and return to practice, after a break in their career.</li><li>Provide ‘re-fresher’ sessions on recent changes in practice knowledge, including legislative changes and the impact of these on practice.</li><li>Provide ‘re-fresher’ sessions on recent changes in Safeguarding practice, within Children and Family, Adults and Mental Health settings.</li><li>Highlight the importance of Evidence Informed Practice and facilitate access to current research and practice related information.</li><li>Offer a supervised practice placement within a statutory local authority, in Greater Manchester, to re-fresh practice in situ.</li><li>Prepare candidates for employability via support with CV writing and employment interviews, with local authority social work employers</li><li>Work with candidates to identify future development needs and CPD plans.</li></ul> <ul><li>Demonstrate an appreciation of changes in contemporary social work practice</li><li>Evidence an understanding of recent changes in legislative practice impacting on key areas of social work interventions, including safeguarding</li><li>Demonstrate an appreciation of the relevance of Social Work England Professional Standards, including CPD for practice and identify future learning goals.</li></ul> <ul> <li> Critically evaluate current developments in practice</li> <li> Analyse the role of evidence in underpinning interventions</li> <li> Reflect on current knowledge and skills alongside identifying areas for future development  </li></ul> <ul> <li> Demonstrate the ability to source relevant evidence to inform their decision making</li> <li> Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and identify key issues in a social work interview.</li> <li> Evidence the ability to effectively undertake agency work as appropriate on practice placements and apply practical skills when working with service users and colleagues</li></ul> <ul> <li> Communicate verbally demonstrating empathy, clarity and focus</li> <li> Use IT skills effectively to seek research information</li> <li> Demonstrate the ability to reflect on own learning</li></ul> Face to face sessions will be run as a mix of lecture and workshop. Didactic input will be provided where appropriate and students will be encouraged to undertake small group work to discuss issues, debate information and make links to practice. Students will undertake a 10 day supervised practice placement in a Local Authority Social Work team, within Greater Manchester, in order to update knowledge and skills.Students are required to undertake 15 days private study in addition to the 5 days face to face teaching and 10 day placement. Students will need access to e-books and e-resources on Blackboard to help them undertake their additional study. 0 Other 100% No assessment is undertaken with this unit.
